Mission and Outreach Ministry
We are to gather together and to reach out as a community of believers. This ministry supports our national and international missionaries by promoting the four major mission offerings of the year. This ministry also plans and encourages mission trips, involvement in ABW and ABM, as well as outreach activities in the local community. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
SHBC Weekly Update
March 4, 2025
What’s happening at Sunset Hills?
Bible Study has been canceled for tonight, 3/5/25.
Daylight Saving Time begins early Sunday morning. Push your clocks ahead one hour or you might arrive for worship in time for the benediction.
________
During my journalism career, we always had to be ready for news to happen and make changes as needed. Likewise, our Missions and Outreach Ministry needs to be ready to adjust when the opportunity appears. A broken water pipe at the Open Door Mission ruined its supply of diapers, so we’d like to step up with a diaper drive through March 28. Boys, girls, all sizes, doesn’t matter. We’ve opened the drive to the entire community, with the church as the drop-off location, so spread the word to anyone who might be able to help. A tub is located by the church’s front door for donations. As we have at Pine Elementary, we can make a difference in many lives.
________
If anyone has unused clear plastic totes with lids, Cindy Combs could use them to help organize the storage area in the Fellowship Hall. The sizes that fit under a bed are preferred, but deeper tubs are ok, too. Tubs also could be used for the school supplies, warm weather gear and other collections we make during the years. Any unused tubs can be returned if labeled.
________
Kathy Koppenhaver received the right hand of fellowship and became a member of Sunset Hills before Communion on Sunday. The attached photo shows Kathy with moderator Diane Workman.
________
By the time Nalini and I got to Don & Millie’s Sunday evening, the fishbowl was nearly full of receipts. Great job, congregation, and don’t forget to invite others to join us on the first Sunday each month.
________
Maybe some encouraging news concerning the street and water main repair in front of the church. It may be completed sooner than the original April 19 expectation. Half of the church driveway will be closed one week for repaving, followed by the other half the next week. It’s hopeful all will be complete and lanes reopened before the Prairie Pastors Conference starts March 31.
