Mission and Outreach Ministry
We are to gather together and to reach out as a community of believers. This ministry supports our national and international missionaries by promoting the four major mission offerings of the year. This ministry also plans and encourages mission trips, involvement in ABW and ABM, as well as outreach activities in the local community. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

What’s happening at Sunset Hills?
Back to school supplies for Wakonda Elementary are starting to accumulate, with about 10 days remaining before the markers, erasers, notebooks and everything collected are delivered to the school. “We could still use a little bit of everything,” said Cindy Combs, who is leading the drive for the Missions and Outreach Ministry.
There may be enough pencils, but there’s a definite need for tissues, hand sanitizer, wipes, accordion folders and 3-subject notebooks. The list is posted on the slatwall and bulletin board and extras are in the narthex for your convenience. We’re collecting for students in pre-kindergarten through 5th grade, as well as teachers and staff. August 2 is the last day to bring supplies to church.
Undie Sundays also are planned for August 16 and 23. Bring new, packaged underwear for all ages, for delivery to Wakonda pupils, older students and any adult.

A Family Gathering is planned for after worship on Sunday. It will include an entre-provided dinner, with side dishes appreciated. A business meeting will follow the meal and include the election of a new church treasurer.

RetroActive will meet for dinner at the Alpine Inn on Thursday, July 30, at 7 p.m. The Alpine Inn is at 10405 Calhoun Road. Maybe the famed raccoons will be around to entertain. Carpools from the church will leave at 6:15 p.m.

While visitors are always welcome at Sunset Hills, and we’ve seen quite a few in recent weeks and months, it takes an entire congregation to invite those who may be searching for a church family. Sunset Hills, in the 40 years that I’ve been a member, has always been friendly and opening to all. Back then, we had young families and kids of all ages. If we are to grow our Sunday school classes, it will take everyone getting involved – young and old, members and regular attendees. Who have you invited to worship lately?
