Mission and Outreach Ministry
We are to gather together and to reach out as a community of believers. This ministry supports our national and international missionaries by promoting the four major mission offerings of the year. This ministry also plans and encourages mission trips, involvement in ABW and ABM, as well as outreach activities in the local community. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

What’s happening at Sunset Hills?
A destructive tornado hit Omaha 50 years ago next Tuesday, May 6, and had a long-standing effect on some Sunset Hills members. The tornado tore through the Westgate neighborhood, causing major damage to the home of Dean and Joanne Kelley. Dean was caretaker at Pipal Park for the Omaha Parks Department and the Kelley family lived in the caretaker’s home. A program is planned at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Pipal Park, between West Center Road and Hascall Street at about 78th Street. Members of the Kelley family plan to be on hand, possibly including Deanne and Mark Caughey. The public is invited to hear their memorable stories. Bring lawn chairs.

We will prepare hygiene kits during May so they’ll be ready for use whenever a disaster happens. The items listed below need to fit in a one-gallon sealable bag. These non-dry items – shampoo, toothpaste, shaving cream and mouthwash – should NOT be included and will be added when the need arises. Include a small washcloth, bar of soap, deodorant, toothbrush, dental floss, small or medium comb, lip balm, one or two disposable razors, pocket-size tissue package and fingernail clippers. Travel-size items are ideal.

VBS staff will have a preparation meeting this Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. A Child Abuse/Neglect Training session is planned for after worship on May 18; anyone on staff for VBS or any other contact with children are required to attend the session.

Life Surge Omaha is coming to Baxter Arena on Saturday. Though I’ve not attended previously, promotional material makes me think of a Promise Keepers event, except it’s for just one day and it includes women, too. Tim Tebow, actor and author Patricia Heaton and Willie Robertson from Duck Dynasty are scheduled to speak. A large crowd is expected; get tickets at Life Surge Omaha.
