WHAT WE BELIEVE
Passion #1:
We believe a "Passion for Jesus" as Lord and Savior is the normal pursuit and devotion of every Christian through worship, prayer, offering our tithes and service. (II Corinthians 8:7; Philippians 2:1-11; Acts 4:31-35)
Passion #2:
We believe lost people matter to God, and therefore, matter to our church. (Matthew 18:11; Luke 15:3; 19:10)
Passion #3:
We believe the study, teaching, and preaching of truths in Scripture transforms a person's life through the Holy Spirit. (John 14:26; 17:17; Colossians 3:16; I Timothy 1:5; II Timothy 2:15; 3:16-17)
Passion #4:
We believe every Christian should have a passion to use their spiritual gift(s) in service and ministry. (I Timothy 4:14-15; I Corinthians 12; Romans 12:6-8; Ephesians 4:11-13)
Passion #5:
We believe we should work together in love and mutual encouragement that the world might learn God's truths by our example. (John 17:21-23; Acts 11:23; I Thessalonians 5:11; Hebrews 3:13)
Passion #6:
We believe that our church should be culturally relevant to seekers holding to the unchangeable truths of Scriptures. (I Corinthians 9:22-23; II Timothy 4:3-5)
Passion #7:
We believe God has called the church to seek excellence which honors God and provides a channel of communication to seekers. (Colossians 3:17; Malachi 1:6-14; Proverbs 37:17)
Passion #8:
We believe God has placed men and women in the church as He chooses to be respected as professional and lay leaders. (Hebrews 3:17; I Corinthians 12:11, 27-31)

HISTORY
Worship and Sunday School for what initially was called West Omaha Baptist Chapel began in November 1957 in the auditorium of Sidles Company at 73rd and Pacific Streets. Sunset Hills was organized on January 5, 1958, with 53 members, and incorporated in December 1958. The Rev. William Bingham, pastor of Benson Baptist Church, served as the pioneer pastor until September 21, 1958, when the Rev. Edward Chipman became the first full-time pastor. Ground was broken April 5, 1959, with an auto cortege from the Sidles building to the construction site. The first service in the new building was held in the Fellowship Hall on December 20, 1959, with the first service in the new sanctuary on March 6, 1960. The new building was dedicated May 22, 1960, with 69 members. A new christian education wing was dedicated on August 25, 1968.
